Carl Schlegel: Acknowledgments
by Jonathan Ned Katz
Manfred Herzer and Friedemann Pfafflin first rediscovered and republished German documents about Schlegel. See their "Monatsberichte des Wissenschaftlich-humanitäres Komitee 1902 and 1903," Capri 26 (June 1998).
James Steakley brought the German documents to my attention and translated them.
The late Joel Honig helped with U.S. Schlegel research years ago and is fondly remembered as a delightful character. We had great fun laughing together about various research findings. Joel is sorely missed.
Hubert Kennedy contributed his knowledge of German homosexual emancipation history.
Ron Van Cleef contributed research assistance.
Rita Winkler contributed research assistance in Germany and Norman Domeier supervised.
Kate Cordes, a librarian at the Milstein Division of United States History, Local History & Genealogy, New York Public Library, provided valuable information.
David Koch, a Reference Archivist at the Presbyterian Historical Society, Philadelphia, went out of his way to provide valuable research assistance.
Nancy J. Taylor, Director of Programs and Services, Presbyterian Historical Society, provided information.
Bert Hansen edited and corrected typos.
David Gibson provided editorial comments on the press release.
Randall Sell assisted with the research and found several newspaper items.
