Sally Gearhart
Sally Gearhart was born in Pearisburg, Virginia, on April 15, 1931. In the 1970s, Gearhart founded the Women’s Studies Department at San Francisco State University, worked with San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk to defeat the California Briggs Initiative, and became a leading lesbian feminist. In 1978 she wrote one of her most well-known works, The Wanderground, which describes a female-centered utopia.
